10 Tech Tool Necessities Every Middle School English Teacher Needs
As a Middle School English teacher, I’m constantly searching for simple, sturdy tech tools that make my job easier and my teacher life more doable.
I can’t live and teach without THESE 10 necessary tools that I personally love and use in my own classroom. From September to May, and from 8:55 – 3:10, these products are mandatory in keeping my sanity in check! Seriously 🙂
{Full disclosure: Yes, of course these are affiliate links to my Amazon store. That means I get a small commission for the recommendation if you purchase them, but at zero cost to you. The price is no different. Plus, I only recommend my absolute favorite tools, and since I’m asked all the time what I use or how I get something done, I figured I’d just share it all here}
[1] Classroom Cell Phone Holder & Organizer
Managing cell phones in the classroom can be challenging, but this holder provides a structured, almost pretty solution! With 30 or up to 36 slots depending on which option you choose, it encourages students to keep their phones organized and out of sight during class, minimizing distractions and promoting focused learning. I love to use this as a way to visually take attendance! Which slot doesn’t have a phone? Attendance is done! *Pro Tip: Some students WILL try to get around placing their phone in the holder each day. Therefore, do random “spot checks” to show that you’re not falling for the empty “phone cover/holder” placement… You’re checking for the actual phone placement.
[2] Multi Charging Cable Multiple Charger Cord
Ensure devices are always charged with this versatile 4-in-1 charging cord. Compatible with various devices, including smartphones and tablets, it simplifies classroom management by keeping technology ready for educational use throughout the day. This is what I use alongside the classroom phone holder in [1] above.
[3] Silicone Zip Ties, Reusable Zip Ties
Organize and manage cables effectively with these reusable silicone zip ties. Perfect for securing cords around projectors, chargers, and other classroom devices, they help maintain a neat and organized learning environment. I use them at home too, all around the house, just to keep cords from becoming tangled or annoyingly sticking out everywhere.
[4] USB C to HDMI Multiple Adapter
Enhance multimedia presentations with this versatile adapter compatible with MacBooks and other USB-C devices. It allows seamless projection of presentations, videos, and more onto larger screens, enriching visual learning experiences for students. I have a couple of these for both home and classroom use since not all our devices are USB-C.
[5] Laptop Camera Cover Slide Cute (6 Pack)
Is it just me, or is it kind of weird to think that there’s always a camera pointed at your face when you’re working on your laptop or desktop? Ensure privacy with these fun, pretty webcam covers. They’re ultra-thin and easy to apply, perfect for protecting privacy online. I actually use them all around my own house, for my own kids’ devices, and at school. A set of 6 covers everything we need.
[6] Wireless, Waterproof Door Bell with 38 Melodies and Led Flash
Improve classroom management with this wireless doorbell. Featuring 38 melodies and an LED flash, it provides a clear signal for students needing assistance outside the classroom, enabling quick response without disrupting ongoing lessons. I love how even admin or other teachers will use it before just popping in.
[7] Zingers Attention Bell, Answer Buzzers For Classroom
Engage students with these colorful answer buzzers, ideal for classroom games and activities. They encourage participation and make transitions between activities fun and engaging, fostering a more interactive classroom atmosphere.
[8] Office Desk Accessories 2pcs Computer Monitor Memo Board
This is my favorite—I also have a set of these at home! Maximize desk space and organization with this multifunctional memo board. Attach it to your computer monitor for easy access to notes, reminders, and small items like sticky notes and pens, enhancing productivity and efficiency. I love having a clean, open desktop while still working with my sticky notes and memos right there at eye level.
[9] Reusable Smart Notebook
Reduce paper waste with this innovative smart notebook. It allows pages to be wiped clean and reused, integrating handwritten notes seamlessly into digital platforms via cloud sharing. I love that I can scribble-scrabble-doodle my way through planning, note-taking, and sketching (this is how I think and process!) and store it in a way that’s really easy for me to retrieve later.
[10] QR Smart Stickers | Stick Digital Notes to Your Things
Incorporate digital learning into your classroom with these QR smart stickers. Attach them to physical objects to provide instant access to information via smartphones or tablets. Ideal for interactive assignments and enhancing student engagement.
