I know what I’m doing the last two days of school!
It’s gonna be crazy those last two days of 6th grade Language Arts!

Two classes are DONE because of awards ceremonies.

Two classes are NORMAL because, well, it’s just normal class time.

One class is DONE because of yearbook signings.
-
We have been FORBIDDEN from showing movies.
-
We were told to “keep the instructional environment intact.”
So here’s what I’m doing on the last two days with my two “normal” classes:
I have a “Quotable Quotes” activity you can download here for free that will take up two class days (about an hour each day) on those last days of school. It’s a PowerPoint slide show that walks the kids through the analysis and thought behind those really cool, super-creative Pinterest quotes that we all know and love 🙂
Throughout the school year, I use quotes from Pinterest for free-writing topics in my classroom. So my kids have seen them and been exposed to them all year long.

Ok, so it’s now we’re down to the last couple days of school and it’s THEIR turn to create their own “Pin-worthy” quotes!
Here’s a quick run-down of it goes:
Second-to-Last Day of School-

Work your way through the “Quotable Quotes” PowerPoint slideshow available for download here

Students “research” and choose two or three quotes that they like (they can use books or novels or short stories to look for quotes that stand out to them; they can use their own phones or devices to search for kid-friendly quotes; they can think of (school appropriate) lines or lyrics from favorite songs to use as quotes, etc.)

Students begin “designing” or sketching their quote based on the ideas and guidelines in the PowerPoint
Last Day of School-

Students can finally decorate, draw, color, finalize their quote page

Just give them a piece of plain white typing paper and some markers or map pencils
-
They can take it home and hang it up, or swap it with a friend to keep over the summer, or give it to a loved one, etc.
